  • John E. Lichtenstein

    Founding Attorney

    John E. Lichtenstein is a founding member of Lichtenstein Law Group PLC. Over 28 years of practice, he has tried to verdict and successfully resolved through negotiation hundreds of cases involving severe, life-altering injury and wrongful death. Among Mr. Lichtenstein’s trials and settlements are multiple individual results exceeding one million dollars. He and the firm, along with co- counsel, have secured some of the largest jury verdict settlements in Virginia. Mr. Lichtenstein’s injury and wrongful death cases involve defective products, medical malpractice, automobile and tractor- trailer crashes, traumatic brain injury and other settings. Often, his cases concern complex liability and damages issues. As well, for all of his career, Mr. Lichtenstein has tried to verdict and successfully resolved through negotiation cases involving serious criminal allegations in both federal and state courts. Mr. Lichtenstein’s criminal practice ranges from the defense of companies, corporate owners and executives accused of financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, and tax offenses; the defense of medical corporations and physicians accused of health care fraud; the defense of pain medicine physicians and their practices, and many other issues. Mr. Lichtenstein has served his profession and been honored to be elected President of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA) (2015-2016), and to have served for many years on the Association’s Board of Governors and as the Association’s past Legislative Chair. As well, Mr. Lichtenstein was privileged to serve on the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar Criminal Law Section, and as Chair of the Virginia State Bar Criminal Law Section in 2007-2008. Mr. Lichtenstein has been honored to be inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a strictly invitation-only organization of the most respected trial lawyers in the United States and Canada, in the opinion of judges and fellow practitioners. Membership is limited to no more than one percent of the lawyers in any individual state. He currently serves on the College’s Virginia State Committee. As well, Mr. Lichtenstein has been honored to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. Also a strictly invitation-only organization, membership recognizes exceptional trial skills and ethics in criminal practice, as well as major felony trial experience. Mr. Lichtenstein is honored to be recognized by his peers and listed in Best Lawyers in America in personal injury/medical malpractice, as well as criminal defense practice. He is listed in Super Lawyers Magazine in the multiple fields of Personal Injury-Defective Products, Personal Injury-General, and Criminal Defense – including listing in the Top 50 and Top 100 Super Lawyers in Virginia. Mr. Lichtenstein is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation. He has been recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as a Leader in the Law. He is a Master in the Ted Dalton American Inn of Court. He has also been featured by Virginia Business Magazine and is listed in its Legal Elite editions. He has been named Best Lawyer by Roanoker Magazine and SWOCO. A frequent lecturer to professional legal groups, Mr. Lichtenstein has taught continuing legal education seminars concerning many aspects of trial practice in the fields of Personal Injury and Criminal Defense. He is on the Faculty of the Virginia College of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Lichtenstein is a 1983 graduate of the University of Virginia where he was Chair of the Honor Committee and a member of the Raven Society. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1986. Mr. Lichtenstein is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (Member, Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference), the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia, and all trials courts of Virginia. As well, he has been admitted pro hac vice, for individual cases in trial courts outside of Virginia.

  • Joanna 'Jodi' Meyer

    Attorney

    Ms. Meyer’s practice includes civil litigation and state and federal criminal matters. Prior to joining Lichtenstein Law Group PLC, Jodi worked as an intern for The Honorable Laurance B. VanMeter, Court of Appeals Judge for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and for The Honorable Karen K. Caldwell, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Jodi has interned with federal and state public defender offices and was a summer associate at White, McCann & Stewart, PLLC. During law school, she served as a Lead Articles Editor of the Washington & Lee Law Review. Before entering the practice of law, Jodi was a high school teacher of mathematics and personal finance.

  • Gregory Lyons

    Attorney

    A Virginia attorney for more than 30 years, since joining Lichtenstein Law Group in January 2002, Greg has focused his civil practice on cases involving life-altering injuries and wrongful death, including matters of defective products, medical negligence, and auto and tractor-trailer crashes, in which clients have sustained serious and complex injuries (including burns and traumatic brain injuries) and damages (including lost earnings, loss of earning capacity, and the variety of losses that are suffered by the survivors/beneficiaries in wrongful death settings). Greg has also been deeply involved in many of the firm’s complex federal criminal defense matters. Before joining Lichtenstein Law Group, Greg was a commercial litigator. He tried cases in state and federal courts in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio, and successfully argued appeals in the Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Greg’s cases included the successful defense of trade secret misappropriation and patent infringement claims, the reversal on appeal of a substantial lost profits award against his convenience-store chain client in a commercial trespass case, and obtaining and successfully defending on appeal summary judgment against the United States in an estate tax matter involving an unusual issue of (alleged) express or implied repeal of a statute’s effective date. Greg serves his profession as a member of the Board of Governors of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and as chair of the VTLA’s Products Liability section. Greg has served his community as a director, officer and President of the Roanoke Jaycees, a leadership training and community service organization. Greg serves his faith community as his church’s administrative lay leader, as a member of multiple committees, and as a member and Chair of the church’s Administrative Board. Greg is also a member of and soloist for several choral groups in his church. Greg is a 1981 graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar. He is a 1984 graduate of the UVA School of Law, where he was chosen to serve as a Dillard Fellow (upperclass student instructor of first-year legal writing). Greg is admitted to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia, the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, and all trial courts of Virginia.     Attorney

    Carrol Ching is an Associate at Lichtenstein Law Group PLC where she handles complex civil cases. Carrol is experienced in commercial litigation as well as personal injury and employment matters. Carrol received her undergraduate degree in Accounting from the College of William and Mary and her J.D. from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2004. She is a member of the Virginia Bar. Prior to joining Lichtenstein Law Group PLC, Carrol worked as a term and career law clerk at the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia. Before entering the practice of law, Carrol worked as a public accountant and financial accountant for ten years.
